Films Reviewed: Jersey Girl and Taking Lives

DVD-Tails: Splash

Featurette: Interview with Kevin Smith

Regarding Jersey Girl:

Matt: Kevin Smith has proven he can make a film without his signature characters, Jay and Silent Bob.  And with this film, he gives us one of his most memorable characters with the title character (played by Raquel Castro).  Three stars.

Aron: What may seem like another film about a father raising a daughter takes some unexpected comedic and dramatic turns.  Fine performances all around (and you don't miss Jay and Silent Bob).  Three stars.

Average Rating: *** (out of ****)

Regarding Taking Lives:

Aron: Suspenseful, intelligent and well made.  Very interesting subject matter, to boot.  Three stars.

Matt: Add creepy to the list of adjectives above.  Fine performances by everyone in this.  Three stars.

Average Rating: *** (out of ****)

DVD-Tails: This month marks the 20th Anniversary of Splash, the mermaid film that made household names of Tom Hanks, Darryl Hannah and Ron Howard (as a film director).  A new DVD is out with commentary and other special features.

Featurette: Aron interviews Kevin Smith!  Highlights include his career, the future of cinema and what's next for the filmmaker from New Jersey.
